Poshan Bhojan for slum children

Annam Brahma hopes to get rid of the issue of malnutrition in our society. We target to uproot the cause from development in the early days itself. Our children are the future of India and a healthy circle of children can influence a better tomorrow. In Mumbai itself, many slums dwelling children sleep hungry with no course to get a well-balanced meal. Their parents are daily wagers who can barely support them, which forces them to do child labour and many other odd jobs for money. Though the schools provide a meal while at school, eating four meals a day is essential to stay nourished.

Many times, food taken for the hospitals is not consumed fully, we follow the zero-waste policy hence our team spotted a few slum kids around the hospital and started feeding them. These children were so hungry that they lapped up everything served without complaining about the taste or the type of food served.

This incident of children laughing and dancing for getting the bare minimum needs urged Annam Brahma to start a campaign called 'Poshan Bhojan' in support of the parents of these slum kids and remove them from the malnutrition bracket. Our daily pull is seeing the uplifted faces and the happy smile of these kids who eagerly wait for the Annam Brahma truck of food.

When we mention malnutrition, we think of young children or pregnant women, sadly we never think about senior citizens. Today the percentage of old people falling into the malnutrition bracket is drastically shooting up. Due to old age, these people are unable to work and hence have to survive on the mercy of their older children, and neighbours or beg for food. With no savings or insurance, they get injured and bedridden, making it even more difficult to get a meal. Supporting this cause can brighten their few remaining days and relieve them from stressing over getting daily meals.

Anna dana for underprivileged patients and families at the Municipal Hospitals

Government hospitals encounter the majority of patients from low-income backgrounds. These patients have no option but to rely upon municipal or government-aided clinics and hospitals. Most diseases as cured by simply eating a well-proportioned diet. Unfortunately, these people can either afford groceries from the ration office (not high-quality grains and pulses) or some have no food at all. This tampers the nutrition well in the body causing an imbalance in the mind and body. Hence it is paramount for such sickly to eat a good Satvik meal that will expedite their recovery from illness.

The hospitals have more than 1,400 patients in their OPD every month for the treatment of Tuberculosis. TB patients are very frail and any delay in treatment or diagnosis can cause their life. The mortality rate for such patients is very high at 11% compared to those who died in normal circumstances. Providing wholesome meals to such patients can boost their immunity and help them recover faster. Many patients infected are the sole bread earners for the house, and the condition of their families also affects the patients' state.

Anna Arogya for the homeless

Homeless people need to have a healthy diet to survive in the harsh condition they live   in. Junk food is often the only food homeless people can afford. They are always in a state of being unhoused or unsheltered – is the condition of lacking stability, safety, and adequate housing. Annam Brahma has spotted such people and offer the Satvik food so they can survive.
